I had the privilege recently to watch the beautifully haunting film “Les yeux sans visage” (1960). It has become very dear to me, holding equal space with ‘The Thing’ and ‘Basket Case’. But this film would win all the blue ribbons when it comes to imagery, both poetic and gory.

If you haven’t seen this gem yet, I highly recommend it, to see what the French were up to in dramatic cinematography while North American film gave you goosebumps at the most. This movie gave me SHIVERS.

I wont give a lot away. I’ll under-recap the plot: plastic surgeon seeks young girls faces for his daughter’s own disfigurement. Anyhoo, I think this is as good a place as any to start owning up to the years I spend drawing at school, and to dip into my newly purchased Movie Posters from the 30s-50s book collection. Here are two thumbnails I’m working on, but I think I want a really narrow look, to emphasize the last scene in the film that is simply amazing and simplistic.

Those who are familiar with my ‘Fugly Mugz’ ongoing series will be pleased that some of the very first drawings have found an eternal resting place: a quaint Bible verse hanging.

Its not that I didn’t appreciate the gift that was given to me, its just that I’m not much for knick knacks or framed things that aren’t original art or signed prints. No no, I’m not an art snob, I just like owning and framing things that very few other people have. So to balance out respecting the gift giver and my own wall needs, I thought it was perfect to frame the few coloured ‘Fugly Mugz’ I had to correspond with each music related Bible verse.  Now I have both cheerful AND spiritual messages on my hallway!

Well, the first thing I had to do was fix the Vino poster. The GIANT grape at the top was haunting me in my sleep. So here it is the size it should be. The next step will be a new header, because if these were real pumpkins they’d be smashed by now.
